NJ Political Bosses and Freedom Of Speech

Continuing with the theme of political bosses, apparently there is an individual that has created a South Jersey Empire by controlling elected officials by financing there campaigns. They do not question his authority and heed their every word so that they can continue to receive support in the form of campaign donations.  I do not have a problem with wealthy individuals being able to contribute what they want to the candidates they want. However, when it comes to the point where one person is controlling elected officials because of that person's campaign donations is very troubling.  It takes away the power from the people to influence and change the course of the government.  To serve the people and not to serve the private select interests of an elite person.  That's the purpose of our government.

This person is stealing our liberty and violating the social contract that the people have agreed upon between us and our government.  Why do we live under the guise of democracy if in fact we literally cannot properly elect those that we see fit to serve us?  I do believe that we must prevent this one South Jerseyan from having such a firm grasp on so so many government officials.

NJ and Political Bosses

I did not go to high school in New Jersey even though I was always a resident of New Jersey. I wasn't the only one at the high school from out of state. We were often the teased just because we came from New Jersey, but I never really though much of it. I always thought it was just some joke at my school and moved on with my life. However, after speaking with professors in the Political Science Department at my college, I find it shocking to now know that there is an evidence as to why these jokes were made in the first place. Apparently, New Jersey is notorious for its corrupt government by being controlled by political bosses.

I thought such things were part if history books and nothing more. It's not that I didn't believe that corruption didn't exist in some town in perhaps some states or even perhaps some counties or a major metropolitan area.  But I never imagined that the politics of a state could still be controlled by the likes of a few individuals.  It's repulsive and insulting that we live in the 21st century and such things still exist. Why has this persisted?  Why does this still exist?

Where's the kid inside you?

It's awesome to let your inner kid not only breath but run wild through all those muddy puddles in life.  A lot of children doesn't really care if they get dirty and gross when they play.  They see the world as a giant unexplored playground with dragons to be slayed, treasures to be plundered, and caverns to be found.  They try doing things differently.

In school, you are told how follow procedures and how to think.  In college, you are specifically taught how to think like a scientist, or a mathematician, or a journalist, or whatever field you study.  However, the greatest among us challenged the notions of what is assumed to be correct and viewed the world differently.  Nicolaus Copernicus, an astronomer, did not accept the "fact of astronomy" the the world was the center of the solar system.  He challenged that idea and discovered the truth!  This happens even in today's world too!  We just need the imagination and the attitude to see the world differently.  Be a child and find a playground to explore! Go create something! Go find some hidden truth!

Prove That

Is there anything in life that can be proven? Are the absolute truths? In math and science, we have tried to prove complicated ideas by using simpler ideas.  But how do we actually prove those basic ideas? How can we prove that 1+1=2.  I think this can be understood easily by intuition. we, as a group of people, as a society, as a community, agree that 1 represents a "thing" and that a "thing" and another "things" gives us two "things" which we agreed to be represented as a 2.

But can we prove other things? That sounds much more daunting.  For example, can someone prove that love exists? Sure I can witness acts of love, but I never actually "see" love.  Don't get me wrong, I 100% believe in love.  But I won't deny that I get scared.  What if it doesn't exist and that it's just some construct of the human mind?  I do believe that love is not only real but very important, but I'm also not scarred of saying that I am frightened by the idea that it might not.
